Women's Lacrosse Downed by Brown

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team fell to 6-5 on the season after suffering a 13-7 defeat at the hands of Brown University on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
The Eagles could not rebound from a difficult loss to Georgetown, and found themselves in the hole, 6-2, at halftime against the Brown Bears. Brown went up two goals less than two minutes into the game, and held that advantage until Meggie O'Neill gathered a pass from Carley St. Lucia to put the Eagles on the board. The Bears added three more before BC's Courtney Legath scored on a free position shot. Brown closed out the period by posting another with just seven seconds remaining on the clock.
The visitors increased their lead to seven by getting the first three scores of the second frame. Susie Breaznell stopped the Bears' scoring run with a goal, from St. Lucia, at 16:46. O'Neill provided a spark for the trailing Eagles, tallying two goals within 30 seconds during the 14 minute mark. Legath, who provided the assist on O'Neill's third goal of the game, netted her second at 10:00. In the midst of the BC scoring, however, Brown was able to maintain its lead, and still had the 10-6 advantage after Legath's goal.
In spite of the Eagles' aggressive play down the stretch, the Bears posted three more goals. Breaznell was not finished, however, and scored on a free position shot for her team-leading 26th goal of the season with 1:37 remaining in regulation.
Freshman goalkeeper Tara McKennett made 11 saves for the Eagles, while Julie Southard kept Brown alive, stopping 13 BC opportunities.
Christine Anneberg, Kate Staley and Bekah Rottenberg provided the offensive power for Brown. Each accumulated three goals and one assist in the Wednesday afternoon contest.
Boston College will travel to Rutgers University on Saturday, April 19 for a 1 p.m. BIG EAST match.
