Softball Pair Wins Weekly Award From Conference

Providence, R.I. - Boston College junior outfielder Erin Mackey (River Forest, Ill.) and senior pitcher Kim Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) collected a share of the conference's weekly awards this week. Mackey was named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week while Ryan was named BIG EAST Co-Pitcher of the Week. It is the first honor for Mackey while Ryan takes home the second weekly nod of the 2003 season.
Mackey helped the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record this past week and a spot atop the conference standings. In four games, she hit .500 with six hits, including three for extra bases. In a win at Pittsburgh, she collected an RBI on 2-for-3 hitting. Two days later in a doubleheader sweep at Virginia Tech, she belted three doubles, hitting .667 for both games. In BC's four wins last week, Mackey totaled six hits, five RBI, and one stolen base.
Ryan made three appearances on the mound this past week, collecting a 2-0 record and notching one save. In three games, she struck out 28 and did not allow a run in 14.2 innings pitched. Surrendering just three hits on the week, she three a one-hitter in seven complete innings to lead BC to a 3-0 win over Pittsburgh.
The Eagles are currently 18-13 overall and 7-1 in the BIG EAST, good for first place in the conference.
This week, the Eagles travel to Central Connecticut on April 15 in a doubleheader postponed from March. The team will then travel to Massachusetts in a single game Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. The Eagles will return to Shea Field Saturday, April 19 to host Connecticut in a BIG EAST doubleheader that begins at 12:00 p.m.
