RALEIGH, N.C. - The men's and women's track and field teams took part last weekend in the North Carolina State-hosted Raleigh Relays, held at the Paul Derr Track. Sophomore Saki Sugano (Bellevue, Wash.) tied the school record in the pole vault as she cleared 11-6 ? en route to finishing in a tie for 13th.
Sugano equaled the mark set last year by herself and sophomore Megan Mara (Avon, Conn.).
Several other eagles had fine performances at the meet. Senior Maggie Guiney (Middletown, N.J.) and junior Laura Smith (Holden, Mass.) placed 15th and 16th in the evening session of the 5,000, respectively. Freshman Laurel Burdick (Manlius, N.Y.) came in fourth in the morning race.
In the 1,500, junior Jennifer Donovan (Melville, N.Y.) took 14th and junior Jennifer Kramer (Loudonville, N.Y.) 15th. The 4x800-meter relay finished seventh.
For the men, sophomores Drew Bouchard (San Diego, Calif.) and Trevor Rozier-Byrd (Freehold, N.J.) captured second and third in the morning section of the 3,000 steeplechase, respectively.
On an interesting side note, assistant coach John Mortimer won the first section of the 3,000 steeplechase as an unattached competitor.
Senior Matt Kootman (Middletown, N.J.) placed fifth in section two of the 10,000 while senior Brian Mahoney (Weymouth, Mass.) came in sixth in the race.
Members of both teams will compete this weekend in the Duke Relays and Southern Connecticut State Invitational.
