More than 30 scouts from 23 National Football League teams were on the Boston College campus Wednesday for the Eagles' annual Pro Timing Day activities. BC's draft-eligible players had the opportunity to showcase their skills and be tested for strength, agility and other characteristics in preparation for the annual NFL draft on April 26 and 27.
"Boston College produces smart football players," said John Mitchell of the Pittsburgh Steelers. "In the NFL, you do so many different things, you've got to get a player who's intelligent enough to come in and pick up things quickly.
"In the BIG EAST, they play tough-nosed football," Mitchell said. "Look at the teams BC plays. When you play Notre Dame, Miami, Pitt, Virginia Tech, you know you're going to get a player who's been well-coached, who's very intelligent, who's going do things the way you want them done."
Scouts from teams that included the Patriots, Cowboys, Giants and Jets watched film on the BC players and met with members of the BC staff as part of their evaluations. The event was held in Alumni Stadium and other BC sports facilities.
"You get well-coached guys from Boston College," Baltimore Ravens scout Rex Ryan said. "BC plays a pro style of football, and that makes our jobs a little easier when evaluating players.
"It's always good to come here because you know you're looking at good athletes from a school with great tradition."
