Hempstead, N.Y. - The Boston College softball team collected two victories on the first day of the Hofstra Invitational at the Hofstra Softball Complex in Hempstead, N.Y. The Eagles blanked Hofstra, 3-0, and beat Monmouth, 5-1. BC improves to 8-11 on the season and will play two more games before returning to Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Boston College used a four-hit shutout from Tekae Melandris (Chula Vista, Calif.) to capture its 3-0 win over Hofstra in its second game of the day. Third baseman Kristin Allain (Worcester, Mass.) snared a line drive late in the game to preserve the shutout. Lisa Fischer (Coopersburg, Pa.) started off the inning with a double and a two-run single to right from Lisa Field (Encinitas, Calif.) gave Boston College a 2-0 lead. The Eagles added an insurance run later in the inning on a Hofstra error.
In the first game of the day, Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.) batted 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to lead Boston College to a 5-1 win over Monmouth.
