Boston College football coach Tom O'Brien has named Don Horton offensive line coach. Horton moves to the offensive line from tight ends coach following the departure of Dave Magazu, who was named tight ends coach of the NFL's Carolina Panthers on Friday.
"I feel very comfortable in promoting Don to coach our offensive line," O'Brien says. "I am confident he will help us carry on the great offensive line tradition we have here at Boston College."
Horton joined the Boston College coaching staff in 1997 after serving as the offensive coordinator at Southern Illinois (1997-96), offensive line coach at Ohio University (1992-93) and offensive coordinator at Capital University (1990-91) and Wittenberg University (1988-89). He is a 1982 graduate of Wittenberg, where he was a three-year starter, and received his Master's degree from Ohio State, where he served as a graduate assistant coach for the Buckeyes' offensive line.
Magazu came to Boston College in 1999 from the University of Memphis, where he served as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.
Horton's appointment is the second for O'Brien in the month of February. Last week, O'Brien named Kevin Lempa defensive backfield coach, replacing Bob Shoop, who departed in January to become head coach at Columbia University.
O'Brien plans to begin a search for a tight ends coach immediately.
