Providence, R.I. - The Boston College softball team was selected to finish in third place in the 2004 BIG EAST Preseason Softball Poll, as picked by the coaches. Notre Dame, winners of the BIG EAST championship and co-champions of the regular season, was selected as the favorite to win the regular season title in 2004, receiving seven of 11 first-place votes. Villanova had three first-place votes while Seton Hall had the final vote.
Notre Dame received 95 points for the No. 1 spot in the 2004 BIG EAST Softball preseason coaches poll. Last year, the Irish captured their fourth BIG EAST Championship title in five years. In 2003, Boston College finished with a 35-22 overall mark (14-5 BIG EAST). Head Coach Jen Finley and the Eagles return four starters and 11 letter winners, including All-BIG EAST performers Erin Mackey (River Forest, Ill.), Tekae Malandris (Chula Vista, Calif.), and Jacqui Goodchild (West Hills, Calif.)
