Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College scored two special-teams goals and successfully killed all six Maine power-play chances to gain a 4-1 Hockey East victory before a sellout crowd of 7,884 in Kelley Rink.
Maine (7-1-0, 2-1-0 Hockey East) entered the game as the nation's top-ranked team, while Boston College (5-2-1, 2-0-0 HE) entered as the fifth-ranked team in the country.
Boston College led 2-0 after one period after netting a shorthanded goal and a power-play goal in the first 20 minutes. With the Eagles playing one man down, senior defenseman J.D. Forrest opened the scoring at 9:16, tallying with assists from Ben and Patrick Eaves. Senior captain Ben Eaves then gave BC a 2-0 margin with a man-advantage tally at 18:04. Tony Voce and Patrick Eaves collected the assists.
Each team scored one goal in the second period. Junior forward Ryan Shannon gave the home team a 3-0 cushion at 7:16 with an unassisted tally and then Maine freshman forward Luciano Aquino answered at 9:13 with his first career goal.
BC junior forward Ryan Murphy finished the scoring with a goal at 16:47 of the third period. Senior Justin Dziama and junior Ned Havern got the assists, the first point of the year for both players.
Boston College's penalty-kill unit thwarted all six Maine power-play opportunities, including four chances in the middle period. BC has now killed 24 consecutive opponent power-play chances in the last five games.
The Eagles take to the road next week as they take on the New Hampshire Wildcats on Wednesday, November 12. The game will be played at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H at 7:00 p.m.
