Manchester, N.H. - The third-ranked Boston College hockey team tied second-ranked New Hampshire tonight, 2-2, at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. With the tie, the BC's record now stands at 5-2-2 (2-0-1 Hockey East). Sophomore Patrick Eaves and junior Ryan Shannon each scored goals for the Eagles.
Eaves put the Eagles ahead early, scoring an unassisted goal at 3:46 of the first period. Shannon's unassisted tally at 3:36 of the second gave Boston College a two-goal cushion that they would maintain for more than 20 minutes.
At 6:46 of the third period, New Hampshire cut the BC lead in half when Jacob Micflikier scored a man-advantage goal, ending the Eagles' streak of five games without allowing a power-play goal. At 18:51 of the third, with their net empty, the Wildcats evened the score at 2-2 on an unassisted tally by Nathan Martz.
Boston College peppered UNH goalie Mike Ayers with six shots in the overtime period, but all were turned away as the Eagles had to settle for the 2-2 tie.
BC goaltender Matti Kaltiainen made 19 saves, while Ayers stopped 34.
The Eagles will be back on the road on Friday as they travel to Amherst to take on ninth-ranked Massachusetts. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
