Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Sophomore Stephen Gionta's shorthanded goal at 15:13 of the second period sparked Boston College's comeback from a two-goal deficit as the second-ranked Eagles earned a 4-2 Hockey East victory over Northeastern before 5,576 fans at Kelley Rink.
The win extended BC's unbeaten streak to eight games. The Eagles finished the month of November with a 6-0-2 record.
Boston College trailed 2-0 after one period, but scored two goals in each of the next two periods to gain the victory.
With his team playing two men down, Gionta trimmed the BC deficit to one goal with his fourth goal of the season and third of the shorthanded variety. The goal also marked BC's fourth shorthanded tally of the season. Sophomore Chris Collins evened the score at 18:51.
Junior Ryan Shannon gave BC a 3-1 lead at 5:14 of the final period and senior Tony Voce finished the scoring at 11:06.
Boston College (9-2-3, 5-0-2 Hockey East) outshot the visiting Huskies, 42-13. The Eagles have now outshot their opponent in every game this season. They are also the only Hockey East team that remains unbeaten in conference play.
Northeastern (0-9-2, 0-7-1 HE) recorded only four shots on net in the first period, but scored on two. Freshman Yale Lewis opened the scoring at 1:29 and classmate Brian Deetch doubled the NU advantage at 6:57.
BC junior Matti Kaltiainen made 11 saves to record his ninth victory of the season. NU junior Keni Gibson made 38 stops.
Game Notes: Ryan Shannon has now recorded at least one point in eight straight games. He has posted 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) over that stretch ... Ty Hennes returned to the lineup after missing six games with an ankle injury ... Stephen Gionta has three of BC's four shorthanded goals this season (J.D. Forrest has the other) ... Shannon, Gionta and Chris Collins have each recorded at least one point in five straight games. The three skate together on BC's second line.
