Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College junior defenseman Andrew Alberts scored two goals, including the equalizer at 8:05 of the third period, as BC and Merrimack fought to a 3-3 tie before 5,489 fans in Kelley Rink.
Second-ranked Boston College outshot Merrimack, 40-14, but MC junior goaltender Casey Guenther stopped 37 shots to help the visiting Warriors gain one point in the Hockey East standings.
Merrimack defenseman Bryan Schmidt scored the only goal of the second period - on the power play -- to snap a 2-2 tie and give Merrimack (2-7-3, 1-5-3 Hockey East) a one-goal margin.
Alberts netted the game's first goal at 4:21 of the first period, blistering a shot past Guenther off an assist from sophomore forward Stephen Gionta. The visitors answered with goals at 6:21 and 14:30. Senior Tony Johnson and freshman Mike Alexiou each scored his first goal of the season to give Merrimack a 2-1 lead.
BC sophomore Chris Collins evened the score less than one minute later, scoring his third goal of the season, redirecting a Ryan Shannon shot into the back of the net.
Boston College (6-2-3, 3-0-2 HE) registered double-digit shot totals in each regulation period. The Eagles had 14 shots on net in the first period, 13 in the second period and 11 in the third period. BC had a 2-0 shot advantage in the extra session.
The game featured only three penalties - two on Boston College and one on Merrimack.
BC freshman Joe Pearce made his first collegiate appearance and made five saves, allowing three goals, in 26:18. Junior Matti Kaltiainen made six saves in the final 38:42.
