Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Behind a hat trick from Tony Voce and five power-play goals, 2nd-ranked Boston College defeated Providence by a 7-4 margin in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,884 in Kelley Rink tonight. Brian Boyle potted the game-winner at 14:42 of the third period to improve BC's record to 7-2-3 (4-0-2 Hockey East). The Friars fell to 6-4-2 (2-4-2 Hockey East).
Voce opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 4:40 of the first. Chris Collins followed at 17:08, with a man-advantage tally off of assists from Stephen Gionta and Andrew Alberts. Providence's David Carpentier scored at 1:55 of the second to cut the Eagle lead to 2-1, but Voce's second power-play goal at 13:22 widened the margin to 3-1. Providence's Mike Robinson answered just more than two minutes later, scoring at 15:36 of the second and then Chase Watson evened the score with a goal at 17:52.
Boyle scored a power-play goal at 4:44 of the third, but the Friars again answered, this time with an even-strength goal from Jonathan Goodwin at 6:48. The Eagles took over from there, though. Boyle scored at 14:42 and before it was over, Joe Rooney and Voce had added goals to give the Eagles the 7-4 win.
Providence goalie Bobby Goepfert made 41 saves while BC's Matti Kaltiainen made 15.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, November 25 when Dartmouth visits Kelley Rink. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
Game Notes: Ben Eaves' assist on Brian Boyle's third-period goal was the 100th of his career ... Ryan Shannon has now recorded at least one point in six consecutive games ... Tony Voce's hat trick was the fourth of his career and second this season ... Andrew Alberts recorded the first three-point game of his career. He now has five points in his last two games.
