Sophomore forward Craig Smith celebrated his 20th birthday by scoring 37 points to lead Boston College to a 101-64 exhibition victory over Inland's Finest, a California-based all-star team.
Smith, a preseason All-BIG EAST second-team selection, scored 15 points in the first half and 22 points in the final 20 minutes. The sophomore shot 16-for-23 from the field. He saw 29 minutes of action.
Joining Smith in double figures were two freshmen -- swingmen Devon Evertsen and Sean Marshall. Marshall finished with 15 points (7-for-10 from the field), while Evertsen added 12 points.
Freshman forward Jared Dudley, the only newcomer in the starting line-up, led BC with nine rebounds. He also contributed seven points.
Senior Uka Agbai, who missed all but the first three games of 2002-03 with a neck injury, added nine points and six rebounds in 23 minutes of action.
BC led 43-30 at halftime, then exploded for 58 second-half points. The Eagles shot 64.3 percent in the final 20 minutes (27-for-42).
Game Notes: BC shot 54.4 percent from the field -- 43.2 percent in the first half and 64.3 percent in the second half ... The Eagles gained a 48-30 rebounding edge ... BC made 14 steals ... Nine BC players saw 13 or more minutes of action, including six players who played between 20-29 minutes ... Freshman Steve Hailey registered a team-high seven assists in 15 minutes ... The starting five were Smith, Dudley, Agbai, Louis Hinnant and Johnnie Jackson ... Jackson contributed nine points in 20 minutes ... BC shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line.
