BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's rowing program had a successful weekend of competition at the 39th annual Head of the Charles Regatta held Saturday October 18th and Sunday the 19th. In the field of 40, the Eagles' Championship Eight boat finished 24th.
Stroking the Championship Eight was senior Anne Nelson followed by Katie Stainken in the seven seat, Tess Casey (sixth), Stephanie Guertin (fifth), Sarah Burns (fourth), Liz Millar (third), Laura Bustos (second), and Amy Boyle in the bow seat. The coxswain of the Championship Eight was Betsy Juarez.
In Youth Four competition, Boston College captured sixth place in the field of 33 teams and finished just 40 seconds behind event-winner Princeton University. Head Coach Steve Fiske had this to say about the performance of his freshman.
"Our finish in this event was very encouraging as our freshman class this year looks to be very strong and competitive with some of the best athletes at their age from many different programs. We are excited because their result was the best result we have seen at the Head of the Charles in quite some time," said Fiske.
Stroking the Youth Four was freshman, Jaclyn Davison. Claire Arpin rowed the three seat, followed by Lauren Hill (2) in the two seat and Rebecca Kraus in bow seat. The coxswain was Amanda Bustos.
The Championship Four boat raced to a 20th place finish out of 22 in the field, but Coach Fiske saw bright spots for the Eagles. "We felt good about the way the athletes handled the pressure of racing in such a competitive event, and we look forward to working hard to close the gap on some of these programs."
The veteran line-up consisted of Brae Holdridge, Colleen Hughes, Kendall Hoekstra, and Amanda Wood all competed in the event. The helmsman for the Championship Four boat was Kate Donavan.
Boston College women's rowing travels to New Jersey this weekend to participate in the Princeton Chase.
