CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team upended 16th ranked Yale University, 2-0 in a non-conference match played at Newton Campus Soccer Field Tuesday night. Junior Oktay Kilic (Heidelberg, Germany) scored his first goal of the season and the game-winner in the 70th minute to lift the Eagles.
Boston College improves to 6-5-2 overall. Yale falls to 6-4-0.
The Eagles controlled the majority of play in the first half and out shot Yale 8-4 through the first half of play.
In the 70th minute, Kilic stole the ball from the Bulldog defense and beat Yale goalkeeper Matt Aleksinas on a breakaway shooting bottom-left for the goal. The score marked the seventh of Kilic's career and the first goal scored against the Bulldogs' defense since the first half of its September 21 game against Creighton.
Boston College would add an insurance goal shortly thereafter when Neil Krause (Holliston, Mass.) beat Aleksinas with a header off a long cross from freshman Richard Gavilanes (Orange, N.J.), for the second goal of the half and his eighth on the year at 83:07.
Senior goalie Mike Cardenas (Framingham, Mass.) tallied his fourth shutout of the year facing 10 shots while making four saves.
The Eagles out shot the Bulldogs 15-10 in the match, but Yale held the edge in corner kicks, 5-4.
