CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (AP) - Jose Juan Barea had 19 points, including five in the final 3:21, to lift Northeastern to a 72-67 upset win over Boston College Sunday afternoon in the first meeting of the Boston schools in nearly 18 years.
Sylbrin Robinson led the Huskies (7-6) with 22 points and eight rebounds while Adam Drain finished with 11 points as Northeastern beat BC for the first time in 38 years.
Craig Smith paced Boston College (6-5) with 22 points and Troy Bell had 21.
It was the first meeting of the schools, longtime hockey rivals, since BC beat the Huskies 82-75 on Jan. 30, 1985, and was just Northeastern's third win in 35 games in the series. The Huskies' last victory over the Eagles was Feb. 11, 1964.
The Huskies, who held a 37-33 halftime advantage, opened their biggest lead of the game, 63-55, on Robinson's layup with 6:11 to play.
The Eagles rallied by scoring the next six points, closing the gap to two on Bell's two free throws with just over five minutes left.
After BC closed it to 63-61, Drain and freshman Barea hit 3-pointers 42 seconds apart and the Huskies led by eight.
The Eagles narrowed it to 69-67 on Smith's turnaround in the lane with 41.6 seconds left, but Barea's driving basket with 11.2 seconds left sealed it. Javorie Wilson hit one free throw with two-tenths of a second left for the final margin.
Drain scored five points as the Huskies used a 15-4 run over a 4:22 stretch late in the first half for their halftime lead.
