Starters Doug Bessette (Raynham, MA), Augie Hoffmann (Parkridge, NJ), Kevin McMyler (Dallas, TX) and Greg Toal (Wyckoff, NJ) are among 10 Boston College football players named to the 2002 BIG EAST All-Academic Football Team, the league office announced. BC, Miami, Pittsburgh and West Virginia tied for the most honorees with 10 apiece.
The All-Academic Team recognizes letterwinners who have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. Student-athletes who have completed a minimum of two semesters of academic work are eligible.
"These players are the top student-athletes BIG EAST football has to offer," Commissioner Michael Tranghese said. "We are very proud to honor them with these selections."
Bessette, Hoffmann, McMyler and Toal are joined on the Team by Francois Brochu (Augustin, Quebec, Canada), DuJuan Daniels (Indianapolis, IN), Quinton Porter (Portland, ME), Sandro Sciortino (Markham, Ontario, Canada), Shaun Toof (Millis, MA) and Derek Webley (Methuen, MA). Sciortino, who was picked for the all-conference second team, was among six BIG EAST players named to both the All-BIG EAST football and academic teams.
