WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Boston College men's swimming and diving team traveled across the state for a Wednesday evening meet with the College of the Holy Cross, defeating the Crusaders, 178-115. Holy Cross is the fifth consecutive team the Eagles have defeated in head-to-head competition. BC has posted a perfect record since the semester break.
Boston College started the evening taking first and second place in the 200 medley relay and the 1000-free (Tim Tully, James Russo). While Holy Cross had the first finisher in the 200-free, BC's three swimmers touched next. Brad O'Brien won the 100-backstroke, followed by another 1-2 finish in the 100 breaststroke (Andrew Fromm, Travis McGahey). O'Brien captured his second victory of the night in the 200-backstroke, and Fromm, his second as well, in the 200-breast. Distance freestyle specialist John Dussel earned the points for the 500-freestyle, to put the Eagles up by a commanding 139-68 margin. Co-captain Matthias Schildwachter led an Eagle sweep of the 100-butterfly for the final first-place finish of the night for BC.
The Crusaders came back, winning the final four events to close the night, but Boston College held on for the 178-115 victory.
The Boston College men's swimming team will next compete at the University of New Hampshire on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m.
