Smith Earns BIG EAST Rookie Honors

Freshman forward Craig Smith captured BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending Jan. 19, according to an announcement made by the league office.
The honor marks the third time this season that Smith has been recognized by the league. On Dec. 9, he shared Rookie of the Week honors with Notre Dame's Torrin Francis. On Dec. 16, he shared Rookie of the Week honors with Syracuse forward Carmelo Anthony.
Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Fairfax) averaged 25.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in the Eagles' wins over North Carolina State and West Virginia. He shot 62.5 percent (20-for-32) from the field. He tallied 20 points and seven rebounds in the team's 93-81 victory at NC State. He then scored a career-high 30 points and added six rebounds in the Eagles' 75-70 win over West Virginia.
Smith, who is averaging 21.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game on the season, made 13 field goals against West Virginia, tying his single-game high.
Boston College (8-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 22 against Villanova. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Villanova, Pa.
