SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Carmelo Anthony and Hakim Warrick each scored 24 points and combined for 25 rebounds as Syracuse rallied past Boston College 82-74 Saturday night.
It was the 10th straight win for Syracuse (10-1, 2-0 Big East) and the fourth straight loss for the Eagles (6-6, 0-2).
Troy Bell had 29 points to lead BC and moved past Bill Curley into second place all-time on the Eagles' scoring list with 2,127 points, behind only Dana Barros' mark of 2,342. Craig Smith had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Sidney added 11 points and four assists.
Gerry McNamara had 20 points, including 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to run his string to 30 straight, within four of Mike Lee's school record of free throws made in a row, set in 1970-71.
Syracuse overcame foul trouble to both its centers - Craig Forth fouled out and Jeremy McNeil had four - and a woeful shooting night by Kueth Duany, who scored only one point after hitting for 20 Wednesday night at Seton Hall.
Boston College, which trailed 40-32 at halftime after falling behind by as many as 15, tied the game at 48-all with a 14-2 spurt right after the break.
A technical called against Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim at 16:50 gave the Eagles the spark they needed. Bell hit the two free throws and Smith followed with a three-point play and a rebound basket to pull BC within 46-43 at 15:47.
Bell's 3-pointer from the left corner tied the game 48-all at 13:29, and a fast-break layup by Louis Hinnant put the Eagles ahead for the first time since the 17:24 mark of the first half.
A high arcing 3 by Andrew Bryant from well behind the arc at 12:22 put BC up 53-50, but he was whistled for a technical just over two minutes later and that turned the tide back for the Orangemen. Syracuse went to a press and quickly rallied back to take the lead for good.
McNamara hit both free throws, Anthony converted two more and Warrick followed with a three-point play to put the Orangemen ahead 59-58 with 9:36 to go.
Anthony scored seven points in 71 seconds in the waning moments to dash the Eagles' hopes, his long 3-pointer with 3:30 left giving Syracuse a 73-62 lead.
Syracuse appeared set to run away with the game early, putting together a a 13-point run that took just 2:25. McNamara's 3 from the top of the key gave the Orangemen a 17-4 lead at 13:22.
BC rallied back in the final two minutes. Sidney fed Smith for a one-hand dunk with 1:53 left, then Bell hit a long 3-pointer and Sidney had a runner in the lane as the Eagles closed within eight points.
