Volleyball Splits Matches at MSU Tournament

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Boston College volleyball team split its two matches today, beating Samford (1-5) and losing to Mississippi State University (5-2) by identical scores of 3-1. The Eagles fall to 4-3 on the year after this weekend's competition in Starkville, Miss.
Boston College opened the day with a match against Samford. They came out flat, losing the first game 26-30, but rallied to win the next three 30-15, 30-21 and 30-20. Liz Aron, Katie Andersen and Rachel Bach were big contributors in the Eagles' 3-1 victory.
In the Eagles' second match of the day, they were defeated by tournament host Mississippi State by a score of 3-1. Coming off the momentum of the morning's win, Boston College captured the first game 30-27. Mississippi State would not go down in front of the home crowd, and recuperated to take the next games 30-28, 30-27 and 30-23. Bach, Aron and Andersen each played well once again. Setter Jessica Brizzolara led the attack with 110 assists in the two-match day.
The outstanding performance of Aron and Bach earned them each places all-tournament team. Aron contributed double-double kill-dig performances in each of the Eagles three matches. Bach reached the momentous 1000 career kill milestone over the weekend.
The Eagles are next in action this coming weekend as they take on Loyola Marymount University, the University of Maryland and Indiana University at the University of Maryland tournament in College Park, Md.
