
Field Hockey Topples Providence, 5-1

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The 17th-ranked Boston College field hockey team scored early and often to collect its first BIG EAST win of the season, topping Providence, 5-1, Wednesday evening at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College. With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST. The Friars fall to 5-5/0-1 BIG EAST.
Boston College scored its first goal with just over nine minutes gone in the game when Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) connected on a breakaway goal. Freshman Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario) added BC's second goal when she redirected an initial penalty corner shot taken by Danielle Incropera (Chelmsford, Mass.).
Kerri Kulesza (Spencer, Mass.) and Lauren Schultz (New Milford, Conn.) added two more first-half goals for Boston College. Schultz, Kelly, and Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) collected assists.
In the second half, Kulesza connected for her second goal of the game, capitalizing on a nice two-on-one with Kelly. BC goalkeeper Lauren Hill (Bethesda, Md.) made six saves on the evening.
Amy Phillips scored Providence's lone goal at the 24:43 mark in the first half. Jennifer Chin collected an assist.
Boston College will travel to Syracuse for a 1:00 game Sunday afternoon.
