PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Guy Melamed (Ort Greenberg/Nofit, Israel) and fifth-year student Kyle Singer (Univ. of Virginia/Plymouth, MN) were rewarded Monday for their outstanding play in Boston College's 2-1 win over No. 3 St. John's as they received BIG EAST Soccer Defensive Player and Goalie of the Week honors, respectively. It is the first weekly conference accolade for either player.
Melamed put the Eagles up 2-0 when he blasted a direct kick off of the inside of the right post and into the back of the net 3:30 into the second half. His third career goal proved to be the game winner as the Red Storm scored its only tally of the game six minutes later.
In his first career start for Boston College, Singer turned away all but one of St. Johns' 16 shots on the day and made a pair of saves. Last year, Singer split time in net for NCAA quarterfinalist Virginia.
Melamed, Singer and the rest of the team are in action Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. when they play the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in Storrs, Conn. at the adidas/UConn Classic.
