Football Eagles Picked To Finish Fourth In BIG EAST
July 25, 2002 | Football
Miami, the defending national champion, was selected to win the BIG EAST crown, marking the eighth time in 10 years (since round-robin play began in 1993) that the Hurricanes have been the preseason favorite to win the crown. The 'Canes received all 24 first-place votes.
Virginia Tech was projected to finish second. The Hokies will take the field with 11 returning starters, including five from a defensive group that was second in the nation in total (237.8 ypg) and scoring defense (13.4 ppg).
Syracuse was chosen to finish in third place. The Orangemen recorded their third 10-win season under head coach Paul Pasqualoni in 2001.
Following BC, Pittsburgh was selected fifth. West Virginia, Temple and Rutgers round out the poll at seventh and eighth.
