Two Eagles Selected In Baseball Draft

Boston College catcher Jeff Mackor and pitcher Matt Elfeldt were both selected in Major League Baseball's 2002 First-Year Player Draft. Mackor was selected by the Houston Astros in the 15th round, while Elfeldt was taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 45th round.
Mackor, who was the 461st player selected, earned All-BIG EAST first team honors in 2002. He was one of only two league players to repeat on the first team. Mackor started and played in all 55 games for the Eagles this spring. He ranked fourth on the squad with a .332 batting average. Mackor's season stats also included 65 hits, 17 doubles, seven home runs and 36 RBI.
The 6-foot-2-inch Mackor hails from Salem, N.H. He recently received his bachelor's degree from the Heights. He is a 1998 graduate of St. John's Prep (Danvers).
Elfeldt, a 6-foot-4-inch righthanded pitcher, threw 25.2 innings for the Eagles during the 2002 season. He finished with a 4.91 earned run average in 15 appearances, including one start.
Elfeldt, who will be a senior at BC in the fall, hails from Delmar, N.Y. He is a 1999 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy.
