Baseball To Dual With Virginia Tech In BIG EAST Tournament

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Despite being swept by Notre Dame this past weekend, the Boston College baseball team has qualified for the 2002 BIG EAST tournament, which will begin Thursday afternoon at Commerce Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J.
The Eagles qualified for the tournament after Connecticut defeated Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon, 5-2. Boston College entered Sunday needing either Pittsburgh to lose, or Rutgers to lose one-of-two to St. John's. Rutgers dropped the first game of a doubleheader to St. John's on Sunday, 3-1.
No. 3-seed Boston College and No. 2-seed Virginia Tech will play at 7 p.m. Thursday evening. Top-seeded Notre Dame will play at 3:30 p.m. against either St. John's or Rutgers.
Boston College (30-23, 15-11 BIG EAST) won the head-to-head series against Virgina Tech (32-24, 18-8), 2-1. The Eagles won game one and three at Shea Field, 8-1 and 2-0, while the Hokies took game two, 15-8.
Ticket Information
Those interested in attending the 2002 BIG EAST tournament, tickets will cost $8 for adults per day, while people over the age of 60, children under the age of 14 and BIG EAST students with a picture idea will be admitted for $5.
