Rowing Shines At 2002 Dad Vail Championships

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Boston College women's rowing team had a tremendous showing at the annual Dad Vail Championships on Friday and Saturday on the Shuylkill River. The event was a two-day affair with schools from across the nation competing. For the first time ever, both the men's and women's teams captured the Jack Bratten Overall Point Trophy. For their part, the women had an excellent weekend with the second Varsity Eight boat taking first place in its final and the first Varsity Eight finishing third in its final.
The Varsity Eight rowed a terrific race in the final on Saturday, finishing in third-pace with a time of 6:43.8. Massachusetts won the race - rowing a time of 6:39.3 - and Villanova came in just three seconds later.
The JV (Second Varsity) Eight boat won the Coleman D. Boylan Trophy for finishing first in its final, rowing a time of 6:56.8. UMass finished in second place about two seconds later. Purdue rounded out the top three, finishing more than seven seconds behind the Eagles.
The Eagles' Novice Eight boat also rowed well in its final, placing fourth with a time of 7:11.8. Purdue captured the top position with a time of 7:01.2, St. Joseph's took second place in 7:08.0 and Central Florida finished third at 7:10.8.
