Respect. That's what this past week was all about. With three wins in seven days, our team is really starting to turn things around. We are finally playing up to our potential, proving that we have what it takes to win.
Last Tuesday, we continued our winning streak with a 17 to 3 victory over Sacred Heart. We jumped out to an early lead and never let up. We refused to play down to them, keeping our energy and intensity levels high despite the score. Although it wasn't one of our most competitive games this season, we were happy with our performance and our commitment to winning.
Last weekend, we made a long trip south to play BIG EAST rival, Virginia Tech. It was well worth the traveling. Our two teams could not have been better matched, as it was a fight until the very end. Throughout the game we traded scores with Tech, eventually forcing overtime and then sudden death. We fought hard and never gave up. We did not let anything deter us from coming away with our first BIG EAST win. In the end, our hard work and determination paid off, scoring with thirteen seconds left to complete the upset. This game was instrumental in building our confidence going into our next three BIG EAST games.
Last night we added a fourth straight win, beating Holy Cross 17 to 9. This game was all about redemption. After a disappointing lost last year to the Crusaders, we were determined to prove that we were the better team. Although the game was a bit sloppy and we did not play with same fire that we had against Virginia Tech, we managed to hold onto our lead throughout the game. Winning by eight goals, we accomplished what we had set out to.
These three wins, especially the one against Virginia Tech, could not have come at a better time. With six games left, half of which are against BIG EAST opponents, we have finally seen what we always knew we were capable of. This week we surprised the lacrosse community and proved that we are a team to be reckoned with.
