CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College football team will conclude its spring drills on Saturday, April 27, with the playing of the 2002 Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game at 1 p.m. in Alumni Stadium. Admission to the contest is free.
Along with the game, the campus will host Family Day Activities as well as baseball and softball contests. The Family Day activities, which begin at 10 a.m., will include swimming, moon bounce, giant slide, dunk tank, face painting and much more.
Head coach Tom O'Brien and his staff will lead the team in a four-quarter contest that will feature a Maroon vs. White contest. Following the game, the players will be available on the field to meet fans and to sign autographs.
"I'm very pleased with the effort of our football team this spring. I believe we've created a competition at many positions," O'Brien said. "When you create competition, that's how you become a better football team. We've had some injuries that have forced players to step up and we've created depth on our team. This will be beneficial to everybody involved once we get to August and start preparing for the season."
Boston College finished the 2001 season with an 8-4 record, defeating Georgia in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 28. The game marked the Eagles' second consecutive bowl victory. The Eagles have 40 lettermen returning from last year's team, including eight offensive and eight defensive starters. Quarterback Brian St. Pierre returns for his senior season after earning All-BIG EAST second team accolades in his first season as a starter.
While the football team is conducting its spring game, the Boston College baseball team will be hosting St. John's and the softball team will be entertaining Notre Dame. Both teams play on Shea Field and both games begin at noon.
