CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Junior running back Derrick Knight rushed 14 times for 97 yards to lead all rushers in Boston College's second scrimmage of the spring practice season. Junior newcomer Horace Dodd carried 12 times for 43 yards, while sophomore Brandon Brokaw ran eight times for 27 yards. Knight had the longest run, a 40-yarder, while Dodd scored the lone rushing touchdown.
Senior Brian St. Pierre and sophomore Quinton Porter split the quarterbacking duties and completed passes to 13 different receivers. St. Pierre completed 14 of 28 passes for 154 yards and one touchdown, while Porter completed 18 of 23 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. St. Pierre's longest pass was a 26-yarder to senior Keith Hemmings. Porter's longest completion was a 25-yard strike to sophomore Grant Adams. Porter threw one interception.
Sophomore Joel Hazard made a team-high five catches for 41 yards, including one touchdown reception. Hemmings and Adams each made four receptions. Hemmings' catches totaled 68 yards, while Adams' catches yielded 54 yards and one touchdown. Junior fullback Greg Toal made three catches, including one for a touchdown.
Junior kicker Sandro Sciortino converted one-of-three field goal attempts. He made his attempt from 33 yards.
Defensively, sophomore Peter Shean, senior Vinny Ciurciu and redshirt freshman Chris Hathy each made seven tackles. Ciurciu's totals included one sack for eight yards. Redshirt freshman Mathias Kiwanuka made four tackles behind the line of scrimmage, including two sacks for 14 yards. Senior Derric Rossy, and juniors J.D. Schmidt and Kevin Kiley each were credited with two tackles for loss. Redshirt freshman Nathanael Hasselbeck made one interception.
"It was a tale of two halves in our scrimmage today. I think the offense came out and played extremely well in the first half, but then didn't show up in the second half. The defense was the direct opposite. It didn't show up in the first half, but showed up in the second half," head coach Tom O'Brien said. "So consistency's a problem after looking at our second full scrimmage, and we have to work on being more consistent and playing four quarters. I know that's tough to do in the spring, but I'd like to see a little better concentration out of both the offense and defense at this point in the spring."
