With every season there is bound to be some disappointments. It is at these times that a team's character is truly tested. With two tough losses to BIG EAST teams this week, our team has definitely seen better times.
Walking off the field Wednesday night after falling to UCONN, you could clearly see the disappointment on all of our faces. Everyone knew that UCONN did not beat us, we beat ourselves. It was a game we should have won, but for whatever reason, we were not prepared. We had our moments, but that was simply it: moments. We could not put it all together for an entire sixty minutes. Our inconsistency is what hurt us and allowed UCONN to surge ahead.
Sunday, we faced second-ranked Georgetown. We had hopes of an unbelievable upset, but unfortunately their depth and talent were too much for us to handle. If we had played our best and still lost, then our frustration would not be quite so extreme. Georgetown is great team, and they do deserve a lot of credit. However, there is no way they should have beaten us by such a large margin. At times during the game we proved that we could play right with them. I'm sure we even gave them quite a scare. Unfortunately though, we could not maintain this level of intensity, allowing them to capitalize on our mistakes. Despite the disappointment, Georgetown was definitely a learning experience. We showed that when we are on top of our game, we can play with just about anyone. On the other hand, we saw what happens when you let up, both mentally and physically.
Throughout the season, we have proved our resilience. With only four games remaining, our team's character and spirit will once again have to pull us through. Our final games are all going to be a challenge, testing our determination. We have proved time and time again that when we want it, we can win it. Although we may not have the highest winning percentage in the country, these next two weeks we are going to prove that we are the hardest working and most determined team in the nation.
