Women's Lacrosse Falls To #2 Georgetown, 23-10

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team lost to second-ranked Georgetown University, 23-10, on Sunday afternoon at Kehoe Field. Sophomore Meggie O'Neill notched three goals and freshman goalkeeper Michelle Lawson made 10 saves for the Eagles. With the loss, BC drops to 7-6 overall, 1-4 in the BIG EAST, while Georgetown improves to 10-1 overall, and 4-0 in BIG EAST play.
The Hoyas took control of the match early on, scoring four times in less than eight minutes for a 4-0 lead. Freshman Carley St. Lucia tallied her 21st goal of the season at the 21:38 mark to put the Eagles on the board. Less than two minutes later, senior co-captain Chrissie DeMichele cut the Georgetown lead to two with her 12th goal of the season. The Hoyas responded with four straight goals to increase their advantage to 8-2 with 12:51 remaining in the half. After senior Lauren Miller notched her team-leading 32nd goal of the season to inch the Eagles closer, the two sides traded three goals each to end the half with the score at 11-6.
O'Neill scored less than two minutes into the second half to bring the Eagles within four goals. The Hoya depth and speed would take over from there as the home side scored 12 of the next 15 goals. BC would get no closer than nine goals the rest of the way.
Georgetown was led by Preseason All-American Erin Elbe's career-high 10 points - on six goals and four assists. The Hoyas received multi-point efforts from eight other players.
Boston College received multi-point efforts from six players. In addition to O'Neill's three-goal effort, freshman Susan Breaznell scored two goals, Miller and St. Lucia each tallied two goals and added one assist, DeMichele notched one goal and added one assist, and freshman Courtney Legath added two assists.
The Eagles will return to action on Friday, April 19 against Stanford at Alumni Stadium. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
