Sophomores Quinton Porter and Eric Boatwright split the quarterbacking duties and completed passes to 17 different receivers. Porter completed 18 of 30 passes for 160 yards, while Boatwright completed 10 of 23 passes for 108 yards. Porter's longest completion was a 47-yard strike to sophomore Joel Hazard. Boatwright's longest pass was a 31-yarder to freshman newcomer Tony Gonzalez. Both quarterbacks threw one interception.
Junior tight end Sean Ryan led the Eagles with three receptions for 30 yards. Dodd added to his rushing totals with three catches for 20 yards.
Junior kicker Sandro Sciortino converted three-of-five field goal attempts. He hit attempts from 26, 32 and 37 yards.
Defensively, sophomore cornerback Peter Shean and junior free safety Paul Cook each made a team-high eight tackles. Shean also made one interception and was credited with one pass break-up and one tackle for loss. Other defensive highlights included an 85-yard fumble return for a touchdown by senior linebacker Vinny Ciurciu, one interception and one fumble recovery by redshirt freshman cornerback Nathanael Hasselbeck, and one sack each by seniors Ralph Parent and Derric Rossy and junior Justin Hinds.
"I thought it was a very competitive scrimmage today. I saw a lot of good things on both sides of the ball, but it's only the first effort. We know that in order to be a really good football team, we have a lot of work ahead of us and we'll go back to the practice field on Monday and start preparing for our next scrimmage," said head coach Tom O'Brien. "I thought we had some good individual efforts out there and it looks like we're getting leadership on both sides of the ball. I'm looking forward to this week of practice."
Senior quarterback Brian St. Pierre did not play in the scrimmage. St. Pierre is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
