CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - With the Boston College baseball looking to get back to the BIG EAST tournament for the first time since 1997, head coach Pete Hughes' squad had another setback. 2002 Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Matt Lederhos (Westwood, Mass.) will be out for the remainder of the season with a blood clot in right shoulder.
Lederhos joins fellow junior Ryan Leahy (Salem, Mass.), who has missed the entire 2002 campaign for the Eagles. Other players the Eagles have had on the disabled list this season are senior pitcher Paul Knapic (Milford, Mass.), who has been out with Tommy John elbow surgery, and junior pitcher Matt Elfeldt (Delmar, N.Y.), who just returned from testicular cancer.
On the season, Lederhos started and played in 25 games for the Eagles. He was fourth on the team with a .330 batting average (minimum 20 games), tied for first in home runs (five) and stolen bases (10-of-15) and third in RBI (23).
The Boston College baseball team (15-13, 6-4 BIG EAST) returns to action at 12 p.m. Friday when it takes on BI G EAST rival West Virginia in a doubleheader at Shea Field.
