A Disappointing Week For The Eagles.
Entering this week, we were all excited about how the previous weekend had ended. Sweeping Pittsburgh was important in helping our position in the BIG EAST standings. As a result, we entered the week in a first place tie with UConn. This was really exciting because for the first time in my four years here at Boston College we control our own destiny in BIG EAST play. As long as we do our job the rest of the way, we will earn a spot in the BIG EAST tournament.
However, the week did not start off the way we were hoping. We came out flat against non-conference opponent Brown University. We ended up falling to the Bears, 4-1, in 7 innings due to rain. Once again, we were unable to deal with success the way we need to. As I stated in my earlier journal, it is vital for us to come out and play with the same intensity against both conference and non-conference opponents. This is so important because no matter the opponent, a win stays with us as a team and the program forever. We entered the weekend against Seton Hall on a down note but still in position in the BIG EAST to make some noise.
We came out excited and ready in the first game against Seton Hall. Battling back from an early deficit, we ended up winning 7-5. The highlight of the game was a two-run home run by shortstop Ryan Morgan. This home run along with another strong performance from starting pitcher Chris Lambert is what led us to victory.
After the exciting first game, we were in position to have another successful weekend. However, things did not work out the way we hoped. The next two games were lost due to us not doing the little things. We had opportunities, but did not come up with the key hits and key plays in the field that are necessary to put a team away. However, we played hard from the first pitch and even though we did not win the last two games of the series, we played with the emotion that is necessary to win in the BIG EAST.
