CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - For the second consecutive week, a Boston College baseball player has been named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week. Freshman third baseman Jason Delaney (Hanson, Mass.) received the honor, along with Notre Dame catcher Paul O'Tolle, after going 8-for-14 from the plate in last week's four BIG EAST games. Junior Vinny Scavone earned the same award last week by the conference.
Delaney's weekend was capped off by a 4-for-4 performance against Pittsburgh in the second game on Saturday. He registered his first and second collegiate home runs in the second and third innings, respectively. In the second, Delaney crushed a three-run shot to left-center in the second inning, and in the third he belted a grand slam to right-center.
Over the four games, which included two games against Connecticut, he batted .571 with five runs, seven RBI, two home runs and two doubles. Before the Connecticut and Pittsburgh series, Delaney was batting .393, but following the four games he boosted his average to .423.
Delaney and the rest of the Boston College baseball team are back in action at 3 p.m. Wednesday when they take on Brown University at Shea Field. Sophomore Matt O'Donnell (1-3) is scheduled to start for the Eagles.
