CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-The Boston College women's rowing team fell to Radcliffe in the season opener for both schools, on Saturday morning on the Charles River. This marked just the second meeting between the schools and evened the series at 1-1. BC captured a half-length win over Radcliffe in the inaugural race back in 1996.
The Eagles competed well, but eventually lost the first and second varsity, varsity four, and first and second novice races. The crews faced a fierce southerly crosswind for the first 1,000 meters, while the course was relatively calm beyond the Mass. Avenue bridge.
In the varsity contest, Radcliffe jumped out to an early lead off the start and extended its margin to open water at the 600-meter mark. Radcliffe was timed in 7:31.2, with the Eagles finishing in 7:45.9.
In 2V race, BC finished with a time of 8:12.1, taking third place behind RadCliffe's heavies and lights. The Black and White heavies led from start to finish and won with a time of 7:40.7, while the lights were next in 7:58.6.
Boston College will return to action on April 6 against Northeastern University and Dartmouth College at the Charles River.
