CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team lost to Hofstra University, 16-10, on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. Hofstra's offense was led by four-goal performances from both Kristin Marshall and Kathleen Mikowski and goalkeeper Megan Greene paced the defense with 12 saves in net. BC was led by freshman Susie Breaznell, who netted a career-high four goals and added one assist.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 3-4 on the season, while Hofstra improves to 4-3.
Marshall would put the Pride on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal on Eagle goalkeeper Michelle Lawson just 29 seconds into the match. BC would tie the score at 26:09 on freshman Carley St. Lucia's fifth goal of the season. Megan Zimmer restored the Pride's lead at 21:04, taking a pass from Tara Sterlacci and beating Lawson with a shot to the far side of the net. Once again, Boston College would quickly answer on Breaznell's first of the game and 10th of the season. The Eagles took the lead just one minute later on a strike from senior co-captain Lauren Miller. The goal was Miller's team-leading 15th of the season. From there the visitors would seize control of the game, tying the score just 31 seconds later on Mikowski's first of the game and then scoring four of the next five goals to surge to a 7-4 lead with 10:29 left in the half. Breaznell's second tally of the game would bring the Eagles within two goals, but any chances of a late run were quelled when Marshall tallied her second and third goals of the game. At the half, Hofstra led BC by the score of 10-6.
The second half started just as the first had, with the Pride scoring within the first minute. After a St. Lucia goal pulled BC closer, Hofstra put the game away, scoring three goals in a row. The Eagles would mount a late comeback, scoring two goals in the final 1:04, but it would be two little too late.
For the match, Hofstra out shot Boston College 26-23. The Eagles received three saves from Lawson and one from sophomore Rachel Zeller.
Freshman Jacklyn Yovankin set a new career-high with two goals on the game, to go along with her five groundballs and two draw controls,
The Eagles will next take the field against Duquesne University on Saturday, Mar. 30 at Alumni Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
