Now that we are back home on the East Coast, it seems as if we are a completely different team. Our confidence is back as we continue our seven-game winning streak. It all began with our last game out in Vegas when we got sick of losing and decided to do something about it. Ever since then, our offense and defense have been unbelievable, outscoring our last seven opponents 35-2!!!
No one can say for sure what it is that brought about this change, but whatever it was, it has worked. Perhaps it was the experience we gained facing many nationally-ranked teams. Maybe it was our long hours of hard work in the Bubble and the weight room, or maybe it was our ability to pull together as a team when times were tough. I think it was a combination of many factors. Now it is up to us to maintain this positive momentum as we move forward and begin Big East play.
Our East Coast winning streak began March 16 with a doubleheader at Hofstra on Long Island. After sweeping the day, we went to my house and enjoyed lots of baked ziti and too many brownie sundaes, like we usually do! Thanks Mom! After a lovely two-hour tour of both the north and south shore of the island (haha...sorry about the directions girls), we went to bed and woke up ready to take two more games. After defeating Hofstra on Sunday for the third time that weekend, we also defeated Wagner by a score of 9-1.
Back home in Boston, the weather postponed, and then cancelled, our would-be Big East opener against Virginia Tech. After a day or two of dry weather, and thanks to an unbelievable job by the amazingly-talented grounds crew, our field was ready for our home opener against Fairfield University. We scored nine runs on the day while completely shutting out the Stags.
We now have momentum on our side as we wait to play our first Big East game against Providence on Saturday March 30.
