Baseball Falls On The Road To Rhode Island, 9-6

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Boston College baseball team (9-8) dropped its third-consecutive game by losing to the University of Rhode Island (8-9) on Thursday afternoon at Bill Beck Field. The Eagles are now 6-5 in their last 11 games.
After falling behind 4-1 after two innings, the Eagles scored two runs in the top of third, top of the fifth and one in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead. However, the Rams posted two on the board in there half of the seventh and three in the eighth to take a 9-6 lead.
Despite losing the ballgame, Boston College pounded out 15 hits compared to Rhode Island's 11. The Eagles were led by first baseman Vinny Scavone, who finished 4-for-5 from the plate with one RBI and scored one run. To go along with Scavone's four hits, center fielder Matt Lederhos, right fielder Brian Macchi, catcher Jeff Mackor and third baseman Jason Delaney each pounded out two hits apiece. Designated hitter Brian Durkin registered his second home run of the season, when he belted a two-run shot.
Freshman Joe Martinez started the game at pitcher for the Eagles, as he went five complete innings only allowing seven hits, four runs (only one which was earned), two walks and struck out two Rams' batters. Freshman David Preziosi (0-1) picked up the loss for Boston College, as he pitched 2.1 innings allowing three hits, five runs and two walks. He struck out four batters along the way.
Boston College is back in action at 12 p.m. Saturday when it hosts BIG EAST rival Rutgers University for a double-header at Shea Field. The second game will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
