Blumfield Earns Second Weekly Nod

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Junior short stop Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.) earned her second BIG EAST Player of the Week award this season. She shared the honor with Syracuse's Cheryl Julicher. Blumfield also earned the league's first player of the week honor of the season on February 25. It is the third BIG EAST Player of the Week honor of her career.
In four games last weekend, Blumfield hit .643 (nine-for-14) and collected at least two hits in each game. Along with her two doubles, one triple and home run, she drove in seven and scored four more runs. Blumfield had a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .643 on-base percentage in the 4-0 week for the Eagles. She also added two stolen bases and a perfect fielding percentage.
Boston College is currently in the middle of a five-game winning streak and has an 8-15 overall record. The Eagles open their 2002 BIG EAST on Saturday, March 23 against Virginia Tech. The doubleheader begins at noon on Shea Field.
