Women's Track Defeats Rivals Boston University and Providence

BOSTON - The Boston College women's indoor track and field team defeated cross-town rival Boston University and BIG EAST rival Providence, Tuesday evening, at the Commonwealth Armory, which is on the campus of Boston University. The Eagles finished with a final score of 131, which was followed by BU's score of 95 and PC's tally of 42.
Junior Megan Kearney (North Canton, Conn.) led the way for head coach Randy Thomas' squad. Kearney finished first in the shot put and the 20-lbs. weight throw, finishing with marks of 36'08.50" and 45'01.75". Senior tri-captain Zoey O'Sullivan (Auburn, Maine) had a strong evening for the Eagles as she took home a first-place finish in the 55-meter dash and a runner-up result in the 200-meter dash. She finished the 55-meter race with a time of 7.26 and the 200-meter sprint with a time of 26.51.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman Kate Noonan (Slingerlands, N.Y.) placed first, out of five participants, finishing with a time of 61.28. Her time of 61.28 surpassed her season-best time of 61.30, which she set on February 2 at the Rhode Island Invitational. Sophomore Julie Heyde (Natick, Mass.) and freshman Ann Marie Walsh (Boulder, Colo.) picked up the other first-place results for Boston College. Heyde won the high jump competition, finishing with a mark of 5'02.50", while Walsh won the long jump with a mark of 17'11.25". Freshman Liz Hassan turned in a season-best time in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.49.
Other strong performances came from freshman Maria Cicero (Elmhurst, Ill.) and sophomore Jennifer Donovan (Melville, N.Y.). Cicero finished second in the one-mile run, finishing with a personal-best time of 4:51.02. Donovan earned an Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying time in the 3,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 9:50.73. Junior Nicolette Pogue (San Jose, Calif.) finished second in the 55-meter dash (7.39) and the triple jump (36'02.75").
The women's indoor track and field team is back in action at 12 p.m. Saturday when it takes on New Hampshire and Vermont in Durham, N.H.
