Baseball's Macchi Named BIG EAST Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior right fielder Brian Macchi (Milford, Mass.) was named the BIG EAST Conference's first player of the week for the 2002 season. The announcement came from the conference office on Tuesday. Macchi helped lead the Boston College baseball team to a perfect 3-0 start after defeating Delaware State University (once) and Davidson College (twice).
Macchi, a second-team all-BIG EAST selection in 2001, concluded the first week of action with a .500 batting average and a .875 slugging percentage. The senior also registered eight hits, six of which were doubles. He also tallied seven RBI while scoring four runs. Boston College finished the weekend with 40 runs and 42 hits and a team batting average of .339.
Macchi and the rest of his teammates are back in action Friday through Sunday, February 22-24, against the University of California-Berkeley in Berkeley, Calif. Game one, on Friday, will begin at 5 p.m., while game two (Saturday) and game three (Sunday) will be at 4 p.m. All three times are Eastern Standard Time.
