Macchi, Ryan Earn Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Boston College seniors Brian Macchi (Milford, Mass.) and Katie Ryan (Elmira, N.Y.) were both recognized with the 2001-02 BIG EAST/A ?ropostale Scholar-Athlete Award. The announcement was made by the BIG EAST Conference.
Both athletes will receive a $2,000 scholarship that they can use toward future graduate studies.
Macchi is an elementary education and human development major at the Heights, while playing for the baseball team. A third-team all-BIG EAST selection in 2001, Macchi finished with a .376 batting average, 17 home runs, 56 RBIs and 71 hits in 51 games last year for the Eagles.
Ryan is an information systems and math major at Boston College, while competing for the cross country and track and field teams. Ryan, a cross country All-America for Boston College and member of the Eagles' track and field team, helped lead the Eagles to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championship in the team standings. From an individual standpoint, she finished 39th out of 226 participants.
