CHESTNUT, HILL, Mass. - Head coach Pete Hughes and the baseball team will hold the fifth annual "Christmas Clinic in the Bubble" Dec. 26-29, and will follow that up with the "Parents Night Out Hitting Clinics" Feb. 1, 8 and 15 in 2003. Both clinics will take place under the dome that covers the Alumni Stadium field during the winter.
"The Bubble" features four full-sized batting cages and two regulation-sized diamonds, as well as bullpen areas.
"No other camp facility in the Northeast can compare to 'The Bubble,' " Hughes said. "It is a great spot for kids to learn valuable skills and get a great head start to the season."
The camps' staff will be made up of Boston College coaches and players, as well as coaches from Harvard, Northeastern, Brandeis, Tufts, Stonehill, Bryant, Trinity (Texas) and Miami (Ohio). In addition, scouts and coaches from the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers will be in attendance.
The Christmas Clinic is split into two sessions: one from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m., the other from noon-2:30 p.m.. The morning session is for ages 6-12, the afternoon for ages 13-18. The cost is $200 for the four-day clinic or $50 per day.
The Parents Night Out Clinic is for children ages 6-13, and is $50 for each session.
Instruction at the camps centers on the fundamentals of pitching, defense and hitting. Lectures from as-yet-to-be-announced guests will cover baseball fundamentals, the recruiting process and strength and conditioning.
