NEW YORK, N.Y. - Boston College senior center Dan Koppen (Whitehall, PA) has been named one of five finalists for the 2002 Dave Rimington Trophy, presented annually to the nation's premier college football center. The winner will be honored at a presentation banquet in Lincoln, NE on December 14.
Other finalists for the award include Jeff Faine of Notre Dame, Al Johnson of Wisconsin, Bruce Nelson of Iowa, and Brett Romberg of Miami (FL).
Koppen has started 34 games in a row for the Eagles. He is the core of an offensive line that paved the way for a 1,000-yard rusher in each of his four years as an Eagle. He helped the Eagles finish the 2002 regular season third in the BIG EAST in total offense and second in passing offense.
Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at Nebraska in 1981 and '82.
