CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's hockey team returned from the holiday break to face Hockey East foe Connecticut Monday afternoon in Chestnut Hill.
The University of Connecticut dominated play for the first two periods, out-shooting the host Eagles 22 to 11. Freshman netminder Alison Quandt was strong in goal, stopping the Husky attack through the first two frames. The Eagle defense helped Quandt, blocking seven shots before the puck could get on net.
UConn's Kim Berry beat Quandt off a pass from Salazer-Reid and Tiffany Owens at 10:45 in the third period to spoil the shutout. Freshman Megan Scully evened the score five minutes later with the first goal of her career at 15:43. Junior Alaina Clark and senior Gen Richardson assisted on the score.
Scully's tally catalyzed the Eagles, but Husky goalie Shannon Murphy denied their last-minute attempts to get the win, taking the game to overtime. The overtime period resembled most of regulation as the Huskies out shot the Eagles, 4-2. Once again, Quandt held strong to safeguard the tie.
The Eagles currently hold a record of 6-5-2, 0-2-2 in Hockey East, while Connecticut moves to 6-9-2, 1-3-2 in conference.
Boston College will return to action on Friday, Jan. 3 at noon in Conte Forum when they face the Yale Bulldogs.
