CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore back Guy Melamed (Nofit, Israel/Ort Greenberg) landed a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America Third Team. The announcement came at a press conference Thursday, Dec. 12 in Dallas, Texas.
Melamed, a first team all-BIG EAST selection, is just the third player in BC history to earn the distinction. Paul Keegan (1992-95) was named a second team forward in 1993 and 1995 while current women's assistant Chris Hamblin (1997-2000) received first-team honors as a goalkeeper in 2000.
Starting all 23 games this season, Melamed scored six goals and totaled 12 points, both highs for Eagle defenders. His goal total was tied for second on the team while his point total ranked fifth. Of his six goals, three were gamewinners.
His defensive play was exemplary as well. Melamed was a huge reason why Boston College rated second in the conference in goals against average and was tied for second in fewest goals allowed following the conclusion of the BIG EAST Tournament.
Melamed is one of five BIG EAST players to earn NSCAA All-America honors. The others are St. John's defender Chris Wingert (first team), Connecticut defender Shavar Thomas (second team), Connecticut forward Damani Ralph (second team) and Rutgers defender Guy Abrahamson (third team).
The Eagles recently completed their most successful campaign in program history with an 18-5 record and a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight.
