CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Refreshed from the Thanksgiving holiday, the Boston College women's ice hockey team returned to Conte Forum to face Union College on Friday evening. The home team outplayed the visiting Dutchwomen, topping them 6-1.
Union opened the scoring with a power-play goal by Hannah Baldwin at 8:20 in the first period. Baldwin dumped the puck in the Boston College zone from center ice, passed Eagle netminder Alison Quandt.
The Eagles charged back, getting goals from Natalie Hummel and Thia Connolly in the closing two minutes of the first frame to take the lead into the locker room.
Boston College would not relinquish its lead, and the scoring poured on for the next two periods. Kerri Sanders and Kristin Blundo each tallied a goal in the second period. Jaclyn Kryzak added one on a power play, 8:16 into the third, and Kathryn Chubrilo earned her first of the season at 15:51.
Sanders added two assists on the evening, to lead her team with three points. Jill McInnis also assisted on two goals.
Union goaltender Dana Smullyan denied the Eagles 48 times. Quandt finished the evening with 9 saves, and smothered Dutchwomen breakaways in the first and second periods.
Boston College returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 1 when it will meet Cornell University at 2 p.m. in Conte Forum.
