CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - No. 4 Boston College scored three goals in the game's first five minutes to defeat Wisconsin, 4-2, Friday night at Kelley Rink. The win keeps the Eagles undefeated at 4-0-0, while Wisconsin falls to 3-2-0.
Freshman Patrick Eaves tallied two goals - both coming in the first eight minutes of the opening period - to propel the Eagles to the victory.
For Eaves the game had special meaning - Wisconsin is coached by his father, Mike Eaves. Mike Eaves, who is in his first year as the Badgers' head coach, served as Patrick's coach last winter when he coached the U.S. Under-18 Team in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Ben Eaves, BC's junior captain and Patrick's older brother, didn't have the opportunity to play against his father's team. He was unable to play because of bruised ribs.
Sophomore Dave Spina opened the scoring at 1:46, with assists credited to freshmen Chris Collins and Ben Lovejoy. Lovejoy's assist was his first collegiate point. Patrick Eaves doubled the BC margin at 3:45 on a nifty feed from junior Tony Voce.
Junior Ty Hennes netted his first goal of the season at 4:06 to give the Eagles a 3-0 cushion, with the pair of Collins and Lovejoy registering the assists again. Patrick Eaves completed the BC rally with his second goal of the night -- a 5-on-3 tally at 7:57. Junior J.D. Forrest picked up an assist, along with sophomore Ryan Shannon.
Wisconsin notched one goal in each of the final two periods.
Boston College outshot Wisconsin, 35-15. BC sophomore Matti Kaltiainen made 13 saves to earn his second victory of the season.
The Eagles return to action Saturday, Oct. 26, when they travel to face HOCKEY EAST rival UMass-Lowell. Game-time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
